Biography
Sonie, as Irmgard Kronberger wanted to be affectionately known by everyone, was already interested in surgery as a young student and has enthusiastically worked in the Tyrolean Cancer Research Institute and Daniel Swarovski Laboratory since 2005. In 2007 she began her steep career as a young assistant doctor at the University Clinic for Visceral, Transplant and Thoracic Surgery at the Medical University of Innsbruck. During her training, she was mainly active clinically and scientifically in the specialist areas of coloproctology (diseases of the colon, rectum and pelvic floor), immunology, transplant surgery and surgical oncology. She devoted herself to these research areas with enormous passion and dedication. She has worked in various scientific projects at home and abroad, In the course of her further career, Sonie specialized in particular in surgical oncology and coloproctology. In 2012 she became a specialist in surgery, in 2013 she became a senior physician and in the following year head of the working group for coloproctology. In a short time she mastered the leap from assistant doctor to head of department with flying colors and became a leader and mentor. Not only at the Department of Visceral, Transplantation and Thoracic Surgery at the Medical University of Innsbruck, but also as President of the Working Group for Coloproctology (ACP) and as the Austrian representative of the European Society of Coloproctology, she was a valued colleague nationally and internationally.
